Rome Private Cultural Experience
Rome rewards curiosity. Ancient monuments stand alongside Renaissance palaces, Baroque churches and neighbourhoods where daily life continues much as it does in any Italian city.
There is an extraordinary amount to see, but the pleasure of visiting Rome comes from having enough time to appreciate it. OHH! ITALY designs private stays that bring together the city’s history, art, food and local life, with experienced guides and practical arrangements suited to each guest.
Discovering Rome with a Private Guide
A morning might begin at the Colosseum and Roman Forum, exploring the remains of the city that once governed much of the Mediterranean. On another day, the Pantheon and the streets around Piazza Navona offer an introduction to a different period of Roman history.
With a knowledgeable private guide, there is time to understand the places you visit, ask questions and explore particular interests.
We arrange guides, admission reservations and private transport as part of the wider stay, taking account of opening hours, travel distances and the time available.
Art, Architecture and Roman Palaces
Rome has one of the world’s great collections of art and architecture, much of it found outside its best-known museums.
Renaissance palaces, Baroque churches and historic galleries reveal the work of artists and architects who shaped the city over centuries. Bernini and Borromini left an extraordinary architectural legacy, while Caravaggio’s paintings can still be admired in several Roman churches.
Visits can focus on a particular artist, architectural period or collection, with access arranged according to each site’s admission conditions.
For guests interested in contemporary artistic practice, a specialist masterclass may also be considered, subject to availability.
Roman Neighbourhoods and Everyday Life
Away from the major monuments, Rome is a city of residential streets, neighbourhood markets, family-run businesses and places where people return every day.
Trastevere is known for its narrow streets and lively atmosphere, while Testaccio has a strong connection to Rome’s culinary traditions and former wholesale food markets.
A walk through these neighbourhoods offers a different perspective on the city. Depending on your interests, we can include food markets, independent shops, artisan workshops or time to explore without a fixed programme.
The Vatican Museums and St Peter’s Basilica
The Vatican deserves careful planning, particularly for guests interested in Renaissance art and religious history.
The Vatican Museums contain extensive collections, from classical sculpture to the Raphael Rooms and Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. A private guide can help you concentrate on the works that interest you most, rather than attempting to see everything in one visit.
St Peter’s Basilica is another remarkable part of the experience, with its architecture, sculpture and centuries of history.
We assist with admission arrangements, guides and transport, taking account of the Vatican’s opening schedules, visitor regulations and the time needed for each visit.
The Pleasure of Dining in Rome
Roman cuisine is rooted in a relatively small number of ingredients and traditions that have remained popular for generations.
Pasta dishes such as carbonara, amatriciana and cacio e pepe are familiar throughout Italy, but they have a particular place in the city’s food culture. Seasonal artichokes, traditional meat dishes and the wines of Lazio offer plenty more to discover.
We can recommend and reserve restaurants according to your preferences, whether you would enjoy a traditional Roman trattoria, a contemporary dining room or a relaxed evening overlooking the city.
The Appian Way and Ancient Ostia
Rome’s archaeological heritage extends well beyond the historic centre.
The Appian Way, one of the most important roads of the ancient Roman world, passes through a landscape of archaeological remains, historic tombs and umbrella pines. It is particularly rewarding for visitors who enjoy history, walking and spending time outdoors.
Ostia Antica offers another opportunity to explore everyday life in the Roman Empire. Its remarkably preserved streets, public buildings and mosaics provide an impression of an ancient port city.
Both places deserve sufficient time and can be incorporated into a private itinerary according to your interests and the length of your stay.
