San Miniato in White Truffle Season

For three weekends in November, the medieval town of San Miniato turns its attention to one of Tuscany’s rarest seasonal treasures: the white truffle.

November

The season arrives first.

The air is cooler. The light sits lower on the ridge.

San Miniato does not announce November. It simply changes. From the medieval streets the country still falls away in hills — woods, fields, the long valley between Florence and Pisa — and the town feels closer to the ground than it does in summer.

White truffle is not yet a stall or a plate. It is a presence: in kitchens, in the timing of a walk, in the knowledge that the soil has begun to give. Some Italian experiences exist because of a precise place and a precise moment of the year. This is one of them.

Then, for three weekends, the town holds the 55th edition of its White Truffle Market Exhibition — the Mostra Mercato del Tartufo Bianco delle Colline Sanminiatesi. The event belongs to that season. It does not invent it.

The hills

Less an ingredient than a season.

The white truffle of these hills cannot be planted like a crop. It belongs to a particular ground and a particular weather. When it appears, it appears briefly. The relationship is older than any fair: landscape, wood, dog, table.

In San Miniato, the white truffle is less an ingredient than a season. The market is the public form of that season — gastronomy, tradition, and the excellence of the surrounding territory gathered in one place, for a few days at a time.

The 55th edition

Three weekends in November.

In 2026 the Mostra Mercato returns to San Miniato across three weekends dedicated to white truffle, local gastronomy, culture, traditions and the territory around the town.

  • I 14–15 November
  • II 21–22 November
  • III 28–29 November

It is a meeting point, not a circuit. Producers, kitchens and visitors occupy the same days. Further programme detail has not yet been released; the organisation has said it will follow.

The town

San Miniato is not a venue.

The experience is not simply entering an event. It is arriving in a medieval hill town and finding the season already there — in the streets, in the courtyards, in the slower November rhythm of Tuscany between Florence and Pisa.

To eat white truffle in a dining room elsewhere is one thing. To walk the same ground that produced it, on the weekends the town turns toward it, is another. The architecture holds you. The country is visible from the ridge. The fair is inside that geography, not apart from it.

Guests of the edition

Part of the programme, not the reason to travel.

Among the special guests of the 55th edition, Alessandro Borghese appears during the first weekend with a cooking show. Licia Colò is expected during the second.

They belong to the public life of the fair. They are not why San Miniato is worth the journey in November.

A private autumn

Beyond the market.

OHH! ITALY is not the organiser of the Mostra Mercato. For travellers we already know, San Miniato can sit inside a wider private autumn through Tuscany — the event as one concentration of the season, not the whole of it.

Around those three weekends we can design what the official programme does not: private transfers, a countryside house rather than a night in transit, a table that understands the truffle without turning it into spectacle, time with producers where it is appropriate, a guide who can walk the town without hurrying it. Florence, Lucca and Pisa are close enough to belong in the same journey if the days allow. Vineyards and estates belong only where they belong — not as a list attached to the fair.

None of this is included in the event. It is how a private journey uses the event as geography.

After summer

A different Tuscany.

This is Tuscany after the summer has left — and for some travellers, that is precisely the point.

Less spectacle. A lower light. Cooking that follows what the ground is doing. Countryside that no longer has to perform. November is not the off-season of the white truffle. It is the season.

OHH! ITALY

Experience white truffle season privately.

OHH! ITALY can build a private Tuscany journey around the San Miniato white truffle season — combining the event with selected stays, private transportation, gastronomy and experiences across the region.

Documentary stills are presented with the house photographic filter. OHH! ITALY is not the organiser of the event. Programme details beyond those stated have not been released.
